It’s not stupid. The country they’re selling oil to is going to be using oil regardless of who sells it to them.* And now Norway has reduced their own fossil fuel usage.

(*Unless enough of the world as a group chooses to not sell oil, which makes oil become too expensive for that other country to buy.)

You’re right. Basic economics. Given climate change though, I’m more interested in countries like Norway investing in policies that grow environmentally responsible industries rather than simply reducing a small part of the emissions of antequated and polluting ones.

I guess those would be powered by non renewables traditionally so this isn’t dissimilar to normal wind farm usage really

The oil companies wanted to build a nuclear plant in my about 15 years back. Would have services about a million homes and industry. Public opinion shut it down.

Well, that’s not ideal, but the oil and gas platforms have to be powered by something. They’ll exist either way, but without these turbines they’d be powered by oil and gas.

Power demand is power demand. If we get all precious about who can use our wind power, they’re not just gonna go “ok, I guess we’ll shut down these oil rigs” 🤷‍♂️
